Tell us what your think about POFP…

Jeff Greenburg

Tell us about yourself:
57 years old married to Bobbi for 22 years with 2 children ages 19 and 14. Director of Elections for Mercer County since 2007.  Prior to which worked at Herald Newspaper as sports writer/editor and political writer for 15 years. Sports fanatic who follows all teams Black and Gold. Volunteered as a scorekeeper for West Middlesex Boys Basketball team for several years.

What brought you to POFP CrossFit?
WMHS basketball coach Chad Mild actually gets most of the credit. He had encouraged me for several months to give it a shot, but I kept finding excuses not to. One day while stretching on the couch, I actually injured something in my neck and that was the final straw that broke the camel’s back (or neck). It was after that day I decided it was time to try to get my health back. I was a high school and college wrestler, but had not done anything physical for 30 years.

What is your most memorable moment?

Hoping it has not happened yet.  But remembering back to the first week when I could NOT finish the workout, seeing the progress to the point where I can finish- at least some days- is very SATISFYING.

If you could design a WOD…what would it be?
1 Push Up, 1 Pull Up, 1 AbMat Sit Up for 3 rounds.
Alright, I am a comedian. No really, that would be it. C’mon Josh! We deserve one easy day, don’t we?

How has CrossFit changed your life?

Before CrossFit, my energy level was typically low, I was often lethargic and more likely to sit and do nothing other than yard work. Just working out 2 days/week has changed all that. I feel better than I have in 30 years. Noticed it for the first time the other day weeding the front yard. Last summer, I would have been taking frequent breaks after being winded. The other day I was able to blast through the WOD without stopping. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE!

Do you have any advice for people interested or just starting at POFP?

This one’s easy. ..
Step One: Quit making excuses.
Step Two: You’re never too old to start.
Step Three: Give yourself 30 days before making any decision whether to continue or stop. I GUARANTEE YOU WON’T QUIT, but if you make that decision after one week you probably will.

Mike and Mykie Morneweck

Tell us about yourself:
Mike: Husband of a beautiful, smart, and strong woman, father to 3 talented, intelligent, and strong willed children and friend of a wonderful group of like-minded fitness enthusiasts. I teach math and computers at the middle/high school level, coach track and field, and capture images and video for people as a professional photographer. In my free time, I enjoy CrossFit, cycling, and spending time with my wife and family.

Mykie: I live in Mercer with my husband, 3 kids and 2 dogs. Kids involved in many activities- Megan is a senior, Michael J a junior, and Merrick is in 8th grade. My husband, Michael, and I are both teachers and own our own business. I love participating  in running events, triathalon as well as spending time with family and friends.

What brought you to POFP CrossFit?

Mike: I have been coming to Penn-Ohio for rehab since knee replacement surgery in 2012. I then started the boot camp workouts and now love doing CrossFit with POFP.

Mykie: The fact that there are early morning workouts was a big part of it. This allowed us to workout before work and not worry about juggling after school activities while trying to stay fit. It helped that we had great friends that were part of the morning crew. Knowing Larry has the PT background to incorporate correct mobility and form to decrease possible injuries was also a major part of it since my husband has a prosthetic knee.

What is your most memorable moment?

Mike:  The Spartan 300 in June 2016 when one miss of box jumps took a “chunk of flesh” from my left shin. I continued and completed the workout.  After all this, I still do box jumps, I’m more cautious!

Mykie: Oh sooo many…. Completing the special WODs, like Murph and the CrossFit Open. Being able to complete toes to bar. And sometimes the Uh-Ohs…Kim!

If you could design a WOD…what would it be?
Mike:  Rowing, Assault Bike, Ball Slams, KBS, and deadlift. I enjoy EMOMs and circuit type workouts.

Mykie: Anything with rowing or running, ball slams, and deadlifts- I love the feeling after a good row or run. Ball slams and deadlifts are a must because they are fun and they help keep the glutes firm (don’t we all want that LOL)

How has CrossFit changed your life?

Mike: Penn-Ohio and POFP CrossFIt has given me a better quality of life. Although I still have aches and pains from workouts, my chronic back pain is considerably more manageable and my flexibility and mobility has allowed me to coach track without hurting myself year after year.

Mykie: One was is that I am so much stronger than I ever knew I could be. I realize that being skinny does not mean being fit. The biggest change is that POFP has strengthened my relationship with my husband. We have found a great way to spend time together – POFP allows us to have so much fun working out. We get up together and share a ride together. We encourage each other during challenging workouts as well as push each other when needed. We both appreciate the fact that we are staying fit so we can spend a long, happy life together.

Do you have any advice for people interested or just starting at POFP?

Mike: For anyone interested in CrossFit, accountability groups are a great way to keep you on track and stay motivated to continue working hard for improvement.

Mykie: Give it time – it will hurt, it will be hard and it will be rewarding! Things will get easier, you will make friends and you will love the changes you eventually see. Do not expect to fall into the routine within the first few workouts. Give it time and it will be worth it!!
